Deck Restore Painting

07/25/2013 by moss Leave a Comment

We have an old house. I think it is around 35 years old. So this deck may be really, really crotchety! That means old in pig latin. And we redid the flat part last year.  This year we wanted to redo all the posts and cover up those dumb hearts. (who puts hearts on balconies except the Swiss? Are we living in the Swiss Alps or what?)

The awful Deck.  This is the BEFORE DECK RESTORE picture.

When we started the project last year we had to do a lot of PREP! Oh my GOSH the deck was flaky. Is yours that way too? Yuck!  I took the power washer and washed off the entire deck really good. It took me an hour or so. Then I let it dry.

Close up of how badly we needed some RESTORE DECK PAINT done  here….

This Deck Restore Paint is the greatest product EVER!  It is from Home Depot. If you don’t want to redo your whole deck in Trex, this is a good alternate solution. It really made our deck look better.

RESTORE DECK PAINT  comes in a gallon can and we bought an applicator roller that had a texture to it. You can add your broomstick to it so it isn’t so backbreaking to apply.  But seriously aren’t these hearts so dumb? I think so. Cute is out, definitely OUT!

We sanded it just a big wire brush, just to loosen anything that might chip off. We picked a dark brown but unfortunately they didn’t have our exact shade. You have to choose from their color selection which isn’t a huge variety, but there are about 20 colors. And we could have color matched. I think we should have, but we are getting ready to paint the house anyway, so no worries.

Here is a short video showing HOW to spread the DECK RESTORE PAINT onto your old deck.  It looks really easy, AND IT WAS!  Especially for me because all I did was watch! Well, and I cleaned up too. 😀

Here is the hubs doing the MANLY WORK!   We got a color matching THE RESTORE PAINT for the posts and the  railings around the deck. I still haven’t done it…..I am such a procrastinator!  Maybe I can get him to do THAT TOO!  hmmm…..

I decided our old umbrella had seen better days. So I got a fresh, new, green umbrella and some cute outdoor cushions and a few decorations for the deck. It was so boring before!  But doesn’t the deck planks look fantastic? Oh yeah!
I love the new umbrella and the oil lamp on the table from Pier 1 on clearance. It was only 8 bucks! Woot!
Fake flowers in pots around the deck mixed with real ones. I got that tip from JOY IN THE GARDEN’S radio show. She does it even with tulips and daffodils! Great idea!

We added these copper, solar lights to the end posts of the deck, they were about  $15.00 each  at the end of the summer last year. Aren’t they pretty? Check them out Here at Home Depot.
Here is the DECK RESTORE looking great even a year later! (we still have to get rid of those hearts though! I’m still working on painting the posts and handrails. It’s a work in progress. It’s so hot I can only stand painting in the evenings.

Marisa at Cowabunga Bay. She is starting school on Friday….sigh….
Yesterday in Utah was Pioneer Day. We took a break to go swimming since my hubs and son had the day off. So my daughter brought her kids and my son brought his and we had a blast!

Cowabunga Bay fun on 7-24-13

Swimming at Cpwabunga Bay  was fun in the 98 degree heat! Oh yeah.

My son Jeff dragged me all over these scary slides. I think I wet my pants on one of them!

Josie loved swimming in the lazy river at Cowabunga Bay with daddy.

Megan was racing all over like a wild thing. She has no fear at all!

She loved all the slides at Cowabunga Bay too!

 Me and Tiff chilling out….

Josie girl chillin with us.

We had fun afterwards eating pulled pork sandwiches and potato salad for lunch. But it was still too hot to eat out on the deck…..sigh…..

Making Glass and Wood Tile Necklaces

07/20/2013 by Pattie Leave a Comment

I just LOVE these cute handmade glass tile necklaces. I think my little 2nd graders could make these even! They would be a fun craft for anybody. I would even like wearing them. You could make them so inexpensively too! (that’s the best part!) HERE at Sabby in Suburbia has a cute tutorial for making her glass tile necklaces.

IMG_9551
Sabby in Suburbia had some cute necklaces with glass tiles. I’ve seen the tiles at craft stores.

I think I’ll try these this year for maybe Mother’s Day or Valentines Day. The kids could make their moms a cute necklace and it won’t break my budget! Kids are really creative at age 7 and 8 too.

I can’t decide if I like the square or round shapes better. I love both of them, so colorful! And who wouldn’t just ADORE a little scotty dog necklace. I would.

Glass tile necklaces can be made up with square or round, glass tiles. They both look great and are so inexpensive to make you could try and see which shapes you like best. I love the square ones. I’ve also seen them made with SCRABBLE tiles. Those, of course, are not glass. But they look cool too.

A cute tutorial on the SCRABBLE necklace tiles (using Mod Podge) is right HERE at Make and Takes.com.

I’ve seen these SCRABBLE TILE  necklaces at County Fairs and Festivals around where I live. They are really cute! Sometimes I see the game Scrabble at the Thrift Stores too. I will be on the lookout for buying one next time I see one. That way we could get the tiles on the CHEAP!

Another tutorial I found at Not Martha.  She used silicone sealer to put on the back of her necklace tiles after choosing her designs from scrapbook paper.

Here is a supply list I modified from the great tutorial from Simply Modern Mom.

  • scrapbook paper with small designs on it
  • glass tiles, circular, or square
  • bails* (I used aanraku small size)
  • clear glue Diamond Glaze or Silicone Sealer
  • super glue or E6000
  • toothpick
  • wax paper
  • ball chains or ribbons ribbons
drying pendants
Design by Simply Modern Mom. The KEY for cute glass tile necklaces,  is to find cute scrapbook paper with some pretty designs on it that lend themselves to these individually punched out squares or circles.
These cute Glass Tile Necklaces  were from Cathy Peng, linking up HERE.

Here’s the materials for making up these cute glass tile necklaces…..

Sun and Moon Gifts HERE is the link.  has a 20 pack of the clear glass square tiles for $3.50 a package. These would be great Mother’s Day Gifts for kids to give to their parents in my classroom.  I think I’ll try it!

Here’s one from Thrifty and Thriving.
I found another tutorial at Cells Dividing for glass tile necklaces, Link HERE. She uses 2 coats of Modge Podge to her handmade paper designs. They just glue the jewelry chain holder on the backs.

attach a chain to it and you made a necklace
Cells Divided found some really cute artwork to use for her glass tile necklaces check it out HERE.

So if you are feeling CRAFTY or BORED and need a creative project to spice up life, these glass tile necklaces would be cute jewelry project you could wear with T Shirts and Jeans! I love them.

You can also find the glass tiles online in bulk packs of 24. Check them out HERE at Sunshine Crafts. Or another with clear and colored in a pack of 36 for less than $10 dollars. There is also websites with free printables for the background papers for the glass tiles. They were pretty cute at Plum Adorable.com. These would make pretty and easy holiday gifts. I can’t wait to make a few of these darling necklaces!

We Made Homemade Kool-Aid Playdough!

07/18/2013 by Pattie 2 Comments

It rained a ton last night and today it was muggy and hot outside so I wanted to think up something fun to do with my granddaughters while I was babysitting today.

Making Playdough out of Kool-Aid is so easy, I’ll never buy it again!

I had bought a pile of Kool-Aide packets to make playdough for my classroom kids last summer but I never got around to it. And that stuff was still up in the cupboard. So we pulled them all down, chose our colors (flavors!) and mixed up a batch in about 2 minutes! Seriously, I’m not Kidding! It was FAST!

There are only 5 ingredients in Kool-Aid Playdough besides the water……
My Granddaughters picked out their favorite Kool-Aid flavors for the Playdough.

It took me about 2 minutes to mix up the Kool-Aid Playdough! Super EASY PEASY!

It is soooooo super quick and easy. It calls for the playdough in the mix before adding the hot water, but I wanted to divide the one batch into 4 colors. So I experimented with it to see if we could add the Kool-Aide after it was all mixed up.

Kool-Aid makes great Playdough….it smells so good!

Here were the colors we chose today for our Kool-Aid Playdough.

Do you think they’re getting excited to start mixing them up? Oh yes they were!

This is the before picture….nobody has rainbow fingers yet. 😀

It worked fine except for one thing; all our fingers were rainbow colors! It dyes you fingers pretty good, but after a few washes you can’t even tell. I should’ve taken a pictures of our rainbow fingers!   What fun we had! And the playdough smells yummy too!

Meg chose Orange and Cherry-Red for her Kool-aid Playdough!

Marisa chose purple-grape and blue-raspberry Kool-Aid for her Playdough.

 KOOL-AID PLAY DOUGH RECIPE

2 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup salt
2 pkg kool-aid (unsweetened)
2 tablespoons cream of tarter
Mix together then add in:
2 cups boiling water
3 tablespoons oil

Mix and knead for 4 minutes or until cool.
We mixed it all in the Mixmaster for 4 minutes
then separated it into 4 bowls. Then we dumped
the Kool-Aid into each bowl so we’d get 4 colors!
Such a great rainy day activity.

Make some soon!

Summer Houseguests- Rules to Live By

07/10/2013 by Pattie 2 Comments

How do you like having guests visiting during the summer? I love it because I get to cook for people besides just the hubs. I don’t love the manic cleaning of the entire house with a white glove (and I really don’t do it very well either,) but I try to make an effort to not have the place lookin’ too trashy. I love it when people clean up after themselves though I don’t think I was ever very good at that as a guest. Not at all.

My son Devin meeting his nephew Dylan for the first time…and his niece Marisa has missed him!

One of my relatives has to have family company stay for 2 weeks this summer,  and they have little kids under 5 to add to the madness. That might not be as fun as having your own kids come home. THAT’s fun! But it can be awkward if it is friends or extended family.  It is hard to watch other people disciplining their kids in front of you (or a lack of it when needed) and weird bedtimes are hard to deal with when yours are all on a schedule. We remember stuff like that.

We took a fun family pic while my out-of-state son was here….Yee Haw! My hubs is the Sheriff in this town! (and he has deputized Devin into redneck servitude..)

I remember watching some friend’s kids while they went on a cruise vacation. One of their kids would freak out every time I opened the fridge and start begging for cheese. She would repeat “cheese, cheese, cheese, cheese!” like for 10 minutes. It was weird. We still just have to say “cheese, cheese, cheese!” and both my hubs and I laugh hysterically to each other remembering.  When her parents came back she had a bite mark on her face done by one of my little darlings. That was fun trying to explain. I think kids have a harder adjustment than the parents do with long stays with relatives or friends. So don’t expect them to be their best.

My cute daughter-in-law Cait and sweet baby Lena. She had 2 little shadow sidekicks, my granddaughters think she is the bee’s knees. Meg kept saying “I like YOU and I like YOU TOO!” to Devin and Cait. Super cute that one!

I remember once visiting for 2 days with one of my husband’s relatives one summer, when my kids were little. One of my boys, for reasons none of us can still fathom, decided to go poop in the corner of one of my nephew’s bedrooms. It was quite mortifying! I mean, how do you explain that tactfully? “Well, maybe he didn’t know you guys have toilets too?”  I think he was 3 1/2. You’d think he would know better. But my kids have always had a weird relationship with poop. I Once  found a tiny finger-sized happy face on a bathroom wall by the downstairs toilet.  We still torture both of these “poopers” relentlessly about it today.

Kissin cousins at the barn to take pictures and see the animals..

“Grandma, why is that hen chasing us?”

Kids act out on vacation usually. They don’t know the routine and they are out of their comfort zones. And they don’t sleep as well, so they are crabby and sleep deprived usually. So just expect bad behavior from your own kids and especially from everybody else’s kids. And get a group of kids together that haven’t been around each other much and you can just take my word for it; there will be fighting going on. Even if they do know each other, there will be some fighting. We couldn’t leave grandpa’s house without somebody fighting with somebody else on summer vacations. And something will get broken. I don’t know how he and grandma put up with it all. We had little hellions!

But they grew up not too maimed. Howdy Partner! “Why does mom always torture us into doing things like this?”
Photo: Tiffany Moss Tremayne, Devin and Caitlin Moss and babies Lena Moss and Dylan Tremayne. (my kids are playing with each other's kids :D
My kids playing with each other’s kids…..Tiff with Lena, Devin with Dylan and Caitlin

We just had a wonderful visit by my adult son Devin, and his wife Caitlin. and baby Lena. If there is a manual for houseguests, my daughter-in-law could write it. She is a wonderful and thoughtful guest. My son is pretty good too but I can’t take credit. Well, maybe I will. Yeah, why not? They have a darling little 5 month old daughter, Lena, who didn’t make a peep, and I mean seriously! She was happy as a clam and just sat there smiling for 4 days.

Can you believe the smile on this baby? It is constant!
She is one happy girl and a happy daddy too!

Maybe that made the visit all the more delightful. It was really fun for me to see my kids all showing up unscheduled when they knew their brother was in town. We had a frozen lasagne party impromptu and it was just really rambunctious and loud and fun. All the grandkids together for once was a rare treat too. We had 5 kids under 6.

“We like you Uncle Devin… when are you coming back to live so we can have pony rides and race through the house getting chased by you all the time?”  (I know it’s what they are thinking!) :O

Uncle Devin loves these girls…they love to be silly together…he gets down to their level so well…..snicker…..

Little Miss Josie loved having one more girl cousin in the family…..She’s a girly girl.

I loved seeing my newest grandbaby passed around by all the brothers. My daughter was lucky enough to have the first boy grandchild (can you imagine how grandma will spoil this one?). His name is Dylan. He is a smiley one too. How did I get so lucky? My kids (the poop people) were not all that smiley and were always into everything and had lots of cat fights as kids. Somebody was always howling or tattling. But we had roudy fun most of the time too.

I have missed that being an empty nester (crappy empty NEST!). So the hubs has to entertain me when everybody else is busy, poor man! He does a very good job of it too.

Tiff won the race to have the first grandson.

I used to be Suzy independent when he traveled when my kids were little. He would be gone for 2 weeks at a time and I handled everything. But now he has to put up with my moodiness, cravings, basic menopausal crap. We have to eat out a lot because, even though I love cooking, I hate cleaning up my kitchen messes (and so does he)!

Gary is my favorite son-in-law….he always offers to put up my Christmas lights for me.  Props for that!  And he loves everything I cook. It is fun to cook food for a man who appreciates it! Note to my sons….compliment your mom on her cooking. It’s just good form.

MY SUMMER COMPANY RULES TO LIVE BY:
Here are a few rules I think people need to go by to have a happy summer visit with relatives;
1. Let people know a few weeks ahead of time the start and end date to your visit. And I personally think that with young families visiting young families short visits are better than multi-week visits. I’d cut it down to a week at most. You get to do and say everything in a week’s time.  And kids want their own bed back by then, not to mention adults sleeping on a rollaway.
2. As a host or hostess don’t plan out your guest’s time. It is annoying. It is their vacation. (I remember once a relative got tickets for our kids to all go to a county fair on a visit. But I didn’t really want to GO to the fair without my traveling hubs and WITH my 4 little kids alone). Of course I went just to please my host, but it was not fun at all! (memories flood back of multiple kids whining and complaining all day for who know’s what reasons and mom enduring hot 100 degree heat with a semi plastered on smile.)

Grandma and Grandpa were always so good to have us come stay in the summertime. They are grand hosts. We loved having them come for dinner a couple of times while we had summer celebrations with family.

3. Make your own kids’ plates of food up and then clean them (and yours) up off the table (and floor) when you are done eating your host’s meals. Don’t make your host do all that. Help with meal preparation and clean up. My daughter-in-law is so good at this.  And don’t say you will be home for a meal and then not show up, or not eat the meal the host has made. That’s just a lot of work for nothing. Have one night where you spring for pizza or go out for dinner.  My brother did this when he visited with his family and I thought it was a nice touch if you are visiting people your own age. I’ll remember that (even though I never thought of doing it myself…..bad guest that I was! lol)
4. Don’t leave money in the guest bedroom when you leave. This is not a hotel. One of my relatives did this once and I did it once too. It is just weird. I learned my lesson.
5. Do leave a thank you note or email after you leave telling what you loved about the visit. It makes your host feel good even if things were not perfect. Or leaving a gift is always nice. lol  (My daughter is really good at this and of course I want to keep encouraging that!) Whenever she leaves the kids with us when her and her hub’s go out of town they always come back with a gift for grandma. Props for gifts, I’m just sayin’!

I hope all your family visits this summer are as fun as mine have been. And if not, you need to go get out more, see the world, go on a road trip. Maybe find a nice hotel with a pool. 😀

July 4th Decorating

06/30/2013 by Pattie Leave a Comment

I had fun decorating my house for 4th of July.  I didn’t go overboard this time either! I’ve only got 1 box full of decorations and I hope to keep it that way. (gotta stay out of Hobby Lobby this month!)

I have 2 sets of patriotic placemats. I like these the best…they go cute with the table runner….
I bought this patriotic quilt and pillow at Kohls one year on clearance…check out my favorite store!

IMG 5460e A Twist on the Rainbow Cake: Fourth of July Cake!
Isn’t this the cutest cake you’ve ever seen? Check out Babble’s Family Kitchen.

Here are my 4th of July cupcakes….the frosting was 1 c.marshmallow creme, 1 c. cool whip, 1 small brick cream cheese….yummy!
My doggie keeps trying to bite the leg off my Uncle Sam…naughty Brucifer!

Babble 6.2125 Decor2 199x300 Fourth of July Centerpieces You Can Eat
Cute candy centerpieces with silver glittery chenille stems placed in the middle.

We got the Statue of Liberty in N.Y.C. when our family took a D.C. & East Coast trip one year…..
DON”T go there in August….it was so hot! Yuck!

My front entry table….I need a hat for my little Lady Liberty….This pic is of my nephew Garrett in the U.S. Army…
I used to babysit that guy when he was just a newborn baby!

Decorate the table
These looked really easy so I thought I’d try them too! They are from LOTS of cute ideas at All You.
I love putting candy in seasonal colors around my house….only problem is my 2 1/2 year old granddaugter eats it all in one gobble!

Patriotic Decor
Front Yard has to look all American too! My uncle Sam windsock is out there somewhere….

I’ve got my whole family here because Devin is home for a visit from Chicago. We had a Friday night gathering with lasagna and salad and we’ll do Sunday dinner with roast beef and mashed potatoes.

Here he is with his little baby daughter Lena. She smiles nonstop all day long.

Dev is beloved by his two little nieces, Marisa and Meg. They like being silly together.

Yeah, silly for sure! But they had a lot of fun blowing bubbles and letting off fireworks.

Here’s a close up of the front door wreath I made and I cut out the little tole painted bear…
Johnny and me went up to Bear Lake and rode our quads over the  weekend!
The aqua blue water is really amazing…and the view!

It’s beautiful on the trails on top of the hills…you can see the whole world…and that BLUE WATER!!!

Hey, I am in red, white and blue! Didn’t even PLAN that! But I DID plan on the raspberry shake!

If you can’t decorate….at least sprinkle some flags somewhere around your house!  I’m proud to be American.  Happy 4th!

My Gardening Glove Collection

06/28/2013 by moss Leave a Comment

You know how people that cycle have all kinds of cool cycling gear? My hubs is a cyclist. Every spring when I get home from work there are days when he will get a package. It tends to either be computer gizmos or cycling gear. He loves to get a new shirt or some of those colorful stretchy pants.

My Garden Glove collection……I think I need to add some more colors!

I used to NOT wear gloves and my fingernails would get so dirty and my hands would get slivers in them and my fingers would get raw from sliding them along cement edging or bricks. I once even tried the Dove Soap trick. Scratch your fingernails along Dove Soap before gardening so you fill under your nails with soap. It did work better at keeping dirt out from under my nails, but it irritated me too. I didn’t like it. So gloves it is.

Garden Glove rack from 'Instructables'
This would be such a cute thing to make to hang the wet gloves up on! I love it!

Well, I think gardeners are no different. We love a good hat, some colorful or “feel good” gloves or a new and improved tool of some sort. I still dream about the day I get a ride on mower…..not that I mow the lawn all that much, I just would like a ride on a ride on mower, haha!
These Atlas gloves are listed as top 5 favorites in gardening gloves, and I think they are really neat. But I think I only need one pair at these prices! EEK!

So here is my collection of gardening gloves. I have all kinds.

I sure do have a lot of black gloves! What’s up with that?

These are cute ones too. Gotta love a new, cute pattern on the gloves. Sometimes I like these loose, thick ones if I’m picking up twigs or pruning bushes.

There is always one pair out on the porch drying out from getting wet or muddy weeding or watering. I just throw them in the washing machine with a load of towels every time I weed or work in the yard.

Garden Gloves….I love the ones with cute patterns, but the thinner, rubbery ones work better for weeding.

And the funny thing is…..every time I walk past a display of garden gloves, I want to buy a new, cute pair! Just like a cyclist longs for a fun, new, pair of socks or some cool, new jersey design.

But my feeling is, HEY! If it helps motivate me to get out there and weed, isn’t it worth every penny spent on my glove fettish? Oh yes it is. 😀

Baby Dylan’s Blessing

06/12/2013 by Pattie Leave a Comment

Baby Dylan was born April 12th, 2013. He is a little doll. Tiff and Gary were all ready for him, as you can see. His name was decorated on his striped blue wall with baseball doo dads. It is super cute! Just like him!

Megan kept yelling “Where’s his feet? I wanna see his feet!” You can see her peeking under the blanket to see them right here. So super cute to watch! Tiff looks amazingly pretty considering she just had given birth a few hours before.

She was just delighted. Marisa was too.

It is always exciting to have the whole family come visit you in the hospital. Tiff was a good sport as we snapped tons of pictures!
This darling quilt was made by Tiff’s good friend Diana who used to live next door to her. She did an awesome job and it matches the Blue and white nursery!

I snapped this picture of him with Johnny holding him the day he came home from the hospital.

Some of the cute decorations Tiff has in his room. Can you believe she MADE THESE?  I used to think
I was pretty crafty. But I don’t know how to do this creative stuff. Gary helped paint the giant blue stripe around the room.
Here is the whole family on Dylan’s blessing day last Sunday (June2nd) We all came over for brunch afterwards. Gary did a nice blessing. He is blessed with strong character. I like that.

Here he is enjoying his cute little suit and tie. This pretty blue afghan was made by his mommy. It is really pretty.

The crib is cute too with baseball pillows and blue and white striped sheets.

Here is everybody hanging out at Tiff and Gary’s house eating brunch. It was fun to see the Tremayne side of the family again. Mandy Tremayne is a fellow blogger so I always like chatting with her. 😀

New mom came over to our house with little Dylan on Mother’s Day 2013. He is so cute. He barely ever makes a peep. (Well, I bet he does in the middle of the night lol.)

Wendy is expecting her 2nd baby and she and Jeff found out it is a girl too. So we will have 5 granddaughters come August, but only one grandson. This is a cute picture of their family holding Dylan.

Grandpa’s girl Megan was so excited about the “party” after church. She had cleaned up her room and had to bring me up to show me a cute picture of her and I and Marisa at the Baby Animals Days in Logan a few months back. She loves this picture.

Photo: Megan loves this picture :)
Me and my first two granddaughters hanging out with baby bunnies.

Dylan is a really good baby and he’s super cute in his little shirt and tie. We just love him and we are so glad he is here. 😀

Homemade Strawberry Pie

05/05/2013 by Pattie Leave a Comment

Strawberry Pie…..so good it’s criminal!  I use Jello for the easy glaze!

Fresh Strawberry Pie with Jello Glaze…don’t ya want a bite? Yes, you do!

I love fresh strawberries and I had a ton I got from the  market for $2.00 a package! What a deal!!  So I made a strawberry pie. This recipe is so easy and it was deeeeeeelish.  You make the glaze with jello! It is SOOOOOO easy peasy.

I’m gonna do another one in peach as soon as they are in season.

Peaches from my tree last year were so yummy. It is just now filled with pink flowery blossoms!
Well, not as pretty as this little Peach at her Spring dance recital!

Here is Miss Megan being her cute, little, joyful self after the recital. So cute!

I like to make my pie crust with real butter. It just tastes better to me, like a yummy crescent cookie. So try your crust with butter to see if you like it too.

PIE CRUST INGREDIENTS…..
 I used 1 cube butter,
cut in 1 1/3 cup of flour.
 Add 1/2 teaspoon salt
 3 Tablespoons ice water
(I add ice cubes to the water before taking out the Tablespoons.

The glaze is easy..just jello mixed with sugar water and cornstarch…

Then I like to whisk it up mold it into a ball and roll it out on a large zip lock baggie. It just makes life easier and I was out of waxed paper. 😀  I rolled it out so it was about 1/2 inch bigger all around than the pie tin layed over it.  Then I cut around it.

I rolled it out onto the gallon size baggie…you could use waxed paper too.

cuttin’ around the upside down tin…1/2 inch bigger for the cute edging…
It’s so easy to flip the pie crust into the pan and peel off the baggie…then toss it!
Making the beautiful edging is my fav part. Just pinch between your left thumb and your right thumb and forefinger to make the pointy peaks around your pie crust edge.  Or opposite if you are a lefty.
Don’t forget to poke forkholes in the butter pie crust…then bake at 475 for 8-10 minutes.

While the crust was baking I did the glaze and cut off the tops of the strawberries and washed and dried them. The glaze is super easy.

Strawberry Glaze Ingredients and Directions
1 cup of water
Mix with 3/4 cup sugar and
2 tablespoons cornstarch
1 small 3 oz. box Strawberry Jello
Mix first 3 ingredients and put it in a saucepan on the stove till it is smooth and when it is bubbling….boil  for about 2 minutes. Then take it off the heat. Whisk in the jello for a minute till it is dissolved and then put it in the fridge for 15 minutes to cool.

Boil the syrup for about 2 minutes….It’s a little bit thick…
Take it off the stove and toss in the small box of jello….
J

Here’s my glaze before I refrigerated it for 15 minutes….

Then arrange the yummy strawberries with the pointy side up in the cooled pie shell. By the time I had the green tops cut off and them washed and dried, the glaze was cool!  Pour the glaze over the top,  coating each of the top strawberries. Then pop it into the fridge for a 1/2 hour until set.

It was delicious because the top of the crust was still crunchy cookie tasting. I hate pie crust that is all soggy Ug! So we ate that baby up so fast!!!  It was gone by morning. Yum is all I can say.  But I wish I had made 2 of em.

Who says you can’t have a piece of Fresh Strawberry Pie for breakfast…NOT ME!
I’ll be dreaming of this Strawberry Pie  for awhile……mmmmm good!

Mix 3/4 cup sugar withStrawberry Glaze Ingredients and Directions
1 cup of water
2 tablespoons cornstarch   Mix first 3 ingredients….

Put it in a saucepan on the stove till it is smooth and when it is bubbling….boil  for about 2 minutes. Then take it off the heat.
Add 1 small 3 oz. strawberry jello into the thickening syrup.
Whisk it for a minute till it is dissolved and then put it in the fridge for 15 minutes to cool.

Ariel Birthday Party for Marisa

04/23/2013 by Pattie Leave a Comment

My oldest grandchild turned 6 last week. It is hard to believe. I can’t imagine my life without her in it. She is the apple of my eye.

She had an Ariel party…with a bubble machine and Nemo hot potato….

And yummy chocolate cupcakes that turned everybody’s tongue bright blue!

Blowing out the “6” candle….

Meg wanted a flounder cupcake…..
Musical chairs was fun….everybody got a prize when they got out!
3 generations of brown eyed girls here……

3 cousins here, Meg, Josie and Marisa….

I loved these aqua frilly skirts they wore….so cute!
Fascinated by trying to pop those bubbles……

Grandpa and I took turns playing with Josie and baby Dylan, grandbabies 3 and 5.

Super cute little guy……didn’t make a peep…..zzzzzz

And these were the most darling bunch of little girls at the party…..especially birthday girl!

6 years old! Woo Hoo!

I got her a doll that looked kind of like her in her glasses…..
Then the girls all beaded a fancy bracelet….

And then we ate cupcakes and sodas and pizza!
Then she opened all her loot……
I had to take some pictures of her cute room….Tiffany made such cute wall art for the girls…..
Super cute flowers and frames…..
And a darling curtain….
Yummy Ariel and Flounder cupcakes with fishy sprinkles…..

Gotta love a goodie bag too!

I still can’t believe she is 6!

I love my little princesses…..what a fun-filled day!
