PEI WEI Kind of Night

01/13/2012 by Pattie Leave a Comment

We went to see Sherlock Holmes at the theater last night.  And on the way home we stopped at my fav place Pei Wei for some Teriyaki Chicken and Crab Wontons.  These things are such a yummy treat.

This lady in back of me in line told me to get some of these….that they were  “To  DIE FOR!”

I always ask everybody in restaurants what they think is good and I ask them what they are ordering!  ….most of them are happy to chat with me….Crab Wontons are a great appetizer!  She was right on that tip!  They are only $2 bucks for 2 of them……Aren’t they pretty?

I always get sugar snap peas on my Teriyaki Chicken….I just like them !

I love the ambiance, the service, the colored, neon lighting, the  chop sticks…everything about this place!
I love the red and black decor….and watching all the cooks do their thing in the stir fry kitchen….

Pei Wei, you ARE my favorite …..I want to go back and eat there tonight already!
And the movie wasn’t bad either!

Christmas Is Over….Did you survive it all?

01/02/2012 by Pattie 1 Comment

My girls showing off their peppermint ring pops….We were all playing Cootie
during the holidays. They Love that game!

Christmas morning at our house was so much fun! Everybody arrived at 10:30 to open presents and do the big chaotic tearing open of the gifts!  It’s was a riot!  Johnny got a Kindle Fire.  I got a fancy, new Sony Cyber Shot DSC-HX100V  camera for taking blog pictures!

I can take video footage and right in the middle I can snap a regular picture! This Sony Cyber Shot is So cool!

It is like a DSLR but in clarity, but idiot proof and easy. It’s called a “bridge” camera. My favorite part is I turn it on and the lens cap pops off and hangs by a little ribbon. I hated carrying those.  I love it!

Christmas morning….waiting for the games to begin!

Tiff and her darling girls in sweater dresses….opening stockings….

Tiffany, my daughter, compiled a bunch of pictures of our family having fun this past year at different events and put them into a bound photo album…. I absolutely loved it…It made me start to bawl….in a good way….but you know I have that ugly cry….yeah…it’s not pretty at all!

This is way better than a photo album traditional style…nothing can fall out!

The little grand kids got pretty loaded up with fun loot.  Then we all ate a nice Christmas brunch...
The girls got like 6 Barbies from the whole family…..hehe…
These two came early to help me out….I LOVE that!  So thoughtful!  Well ….Devin hates all the waiting….hehe….we made him wait anyway (excruciating!) ….Oh the torture of it all!

My hubs is really glad when Christmas Day is all over….he says….”The best part
is when I take the last box down to the storage room!”  Can you believe that?
Yeah…he doesn’t get into Christmas like the rest of us…he tolerates it all though…he’s a good sport…

Well, my son-in-law  loves it all.  And I love getting stuff for him too
because he appreciates everything!  It makes it so fun for me to have people
like that…it’s so fun to see him open stuff and make lots of comments about it….

Are we opening the presents yet?  Can we, can we?   A bunch of  big kids we all are…..

I took one picture before everybody got there…just to show all my hard work…buying gifts for …let’s see…
14 family members, 18 classroom kids, 18 sets of parents of 2nd graders gifts, coworker and office staff gifts, and boss gifts, neighborhood gifts, church people and good friends’ gifts, home teaching and visiting teaching gifts…It all adds up to a ton of people to plan for, buy for, bake for, wrap it all up for….So it’s like I can sit back
and just enjoy myself on Christmas Day….by then all the food is cooked too.  WHOOP IT UP TIME!

Our doggie Brucie… nobody got him any
gifts…… “What’s up with that? Where’s my denta-bone? Where’s my dog toys?”

And I don’t think he was that happy about it….”Hey, you owe me people….I
keep this place guarded like a bloodhound…no…make that a DOBERMAN!  Where’s my pigs ears, people! Where’s
my PUPPERONI?  What the HECK people! ”  It’s Christmas for dogs too DON’T YA KNOW?!
I stopped doing stockings for the adult kids starting this year…but I  still
gave them each something fun to play with while we waited for everyone to arrive.
Here’s Devin with his light up Wheel-O and his Slinky.  He’s just a big kid…face the facts…..

They got me some pretty Christmas placemats and a Mrs. Claus Nutcracker to add to my collection. They know what I like.

I LOVED how Caitlin did such darling package decor…I want to copy that idea next year….

She stamped everyone’s names on the packages….and added an embellishment….Cute!

Cute stuff!

Cute little red, glittery ice skate!  Some people got Coca Cola Bottles…great idea!

“Excuse me Grandma….Thanks for the Baaahbeees” and she showed me her
little Barbie with the Tea Set…  I think she liked it….

.Everybody had fun….

My son’s family got me a collection of perfumes. I love perfume and I always have. I will play with them all year! Thanks guys for everything. I loved all of my presents.  And guess what I found in all the wrapping paper mess? A gift card to the Cheesecake Factory!  Yeah…..good thing I saw it and picked it out of the trash! Whew! That would have been tragic!

Sugar cookies…for all my little sweeties!  I enjoyed all my family  at the  breakfast table…We do have  lots of fun
conversation together….I wish we’d had time to play some games….but we all got ready and went to church
to see my church choir do the Christmas story and program all in songs…..it was very beautiful.

Strawberries and Oranges for the little kiddies….

We have a neighbor, Lee Rasmussen, who BAKES PIES!!! Yeah…I know…Where can
I get one of those?  My husband can make pancakes…and hot dogs from the microwave..
oh wait….he does bacon pretty good too.  This guy seriously bakes crust and all and it is delicious!
We were lucky and got a pecan pie gift from him.. What a super treat!  Thanks Lee!  You Rock!

My daughter-in-law  made everybody these cute cookies layered in jars all decorated up and the cute scrapbooked recipe was attached. I made mine up already and they were delicious! I love special things like that.  I will add a picture when I get a copy from my daughter who hasn’t gobbled hers up yet. They were darling and a great gift idea!

Fruits, breads and sweets…we had lots of candy and nuts to get rid of!

My Christmas morning table set up and decor….

It was a sweet day all around…it makes it so much more fun with little kids…I do have to  say……

Kitchen Island decor…..it was fun to light the candles…..

Cinnamon rolls before I iced them….I just used Rhodes Cinnamon Rolls from Costco
They are easy…just lay them out 30 minutes before you want them….bake…ice and serve…Super yum!

Christmas Brunch Sausage Egg Casserole….Recipe is HERE at my blog Weekday Chef.
You can see I added about a half cup of diced red pepper to it for some spicy crunch!

Neighbor gifts….I made spiced nut breads….

The little kiddie table….so sweet!

Happy Chaos!  I think everybody loved it.  I wonder sometimes ……Do the men of the family actually KNOW how much work we moms go to? I don’t think they have a clue….especially when all they see is the bills….but you know….I think wives deserve  a frickin’ GOLD MEDAL!
But maybe she didn’t get the toy she really wanted? hehe….
Grandpa and Grandma  came for brunch at noon….
I loved how their outfits were kinda matchy matchy.  They are both so darling looking!

Soooooo…….Here was our family Christmas shot…. for  2012

Happy New Year to everyone! Hope you got everything you wanted!
(And if not….go buy it on sale tomorrow!)  Yup….spoil yourself…..
Especially all those moms out there who do all the work anyway…Give yourself a little reward!
That’s what I’d do….mmmhmmm….

Cute Dance Recitals

12/28/2011 by Pattie Leave a Comment

Okay this was the funniest dance recital. We went to the girls’ recitals a few days before Christmas. This Surfin’ Santa is hilarious. It seems like they are just having a great time in front of a huge auditorium full of people and they just couldn’t care less.  So cute.  She’s just smiling at everything, even when the girl to her left loses her hair bows. They were all more interested in the hair bow than the dance number.

Surfin Santa might have been my favorite dance…..so funny!

Don’t ya love it?  Cute little tutus…

Cutest Dancer in the bunch!

Or maybe it was this one….I can’t decide!

Dancing Queens….

Glittered Hair and  cute tutu!

Then next group came out and it seemed like nobody knew this  dance either….except my granddaughter. She had that baby down!  We really enjoyed taking pictures of their cute outfits too. Glitter was in every body’s hair and all these little kids were getting rose bouquets from their relatives. So funny! They were the superstars of the night.

dancing to “Christmas is for Children”

I loved it all! What fun a holiday dance recital can be. We enjoyed everybody else’s kids too and the fun of watching things going a little haywire as well as watching some true talent in bloom.

Cute Christmas Wrap Ideas

12/22/2011 by Pattie Leave a Comment

I’m heavy into the wrapping up of presents this week.  I came across a few ideas that I liked for keeping it all in a theme.  How about using thread for ribbon and attaching adornments? How cute is that? They just used plain colored papers too. Sometimes that is the most striking! Black and red paper!

From Design Sponge HERE.
This cute wrapping idea is from Older and Wiser blogspot.  LOVE IT!
My daughter-in-law stamped everybody’s name on their gifts and then added an
ornament for embellishment….these are just wrapped in brown paper!  Cute!

Labels from My Sweet Prints
This is a cute idea for package labels I found and you can download and print them off free!

I love this idea using some old music paper and gold ribbon with jingle bells! I have TONS of old music books….maybe next year I’ll do a music paper theme with different colors of ribbons….

Cute Kid Wraps from Martha Stewart.

Anyone who is a teacher will love this gift wrapping idea.  I love the hand printed capital letters on paper with different colors of marker. Kids would LOVE to decorate paper with their own printing. Great Idea!

mishmashmake.com and Christmas Labels by Paperjack, Etsy

I’ve always loved Red and White. My wedding
colors were red and white. You can’t go wrong here
using just dots and checks with different
 kinds of ribbons…..

Doilies on brown or red paper is cute too!  From Knicky Knack

Here are my boring packages. I got coordinating paper from Costco and wrapped everything up
in one of these 3 styles of paper adding embellishments to a few.

Just red and white and green foil papers with candy cane embellishments….

Easy and cute I say….Love love love Costco!

 Happy Wrapping!

Handprint Ornaments

Christmas Handprint Ornament

We had fun making our parent gifts this week. Here was one we did last year. But since I had the same class this year (moved up to 2nd grade) I couldn’t do that again. So we made little red sleighs out of popsicle sticks this year. Here is last year’s post.

We made white acrylic handprints on blue glass ball ornaments. The white handprints turn out to look like 5 little fat snowmen for the kids to then decorate with “painty” markers. Here is a sample that we just did today. Here are the steps….

Handprint Snowmen Ornaments

1. Start with blue glass ornaments (any shade) and have your child paint his own hand white with acrylic paint
(I usually go over it once with a paintbrush. Then set the ornament in their hand and they press lightly.
2. Fill in the missing parts of the hand with a small paintbrush. Let dry 15 minutes or so. Wash hands.

3. Adults use a  BLACK paint marker and put 2 dot eyes and 4-5 dots for smile on each snowman. and put  2 “twig” arms on either side using BROWN, and a triange shaped carrot nose in ORANGE.

Cute Handprint Snowmen Ornaments

4. Give students markers to make button dots down the front of snowman, a scarf around his neck kind of flying out in the wind, and some kind of hat. Kids can choose black tophat or red, green, blue or yellow Santa hat using a triangle shape with a white ball on the tip top.

5. Adult write child’s name in white painty marker and year somewhere at top of scene when it is dry.

6. Add a blue or silver ribbon and this poem on cute blue paper with a hole punched in a corner.  Wrap it up with tissue paper and ribbons or do what I do and use brown paper bags with a handmade reindeer on top.

Snowmen Ornament Tags

The kids love to do this craft and it always turns out so cute. Parents have come back and told me it was the cutest ornament they’ve ever had.

Snowmen Handprint Ornaments

The kids in my class then get a lesson in “giftwrapping” and we use school tissue paper and yarn and wrap these darling ornaments up for mom, topped of course by a wonderful handmade card.

Handprint Santa Card

This year I had the kids do a handprint card which turns out to look like Santa Claus.  I paint their palm in peach paint and red and the fingers in white. Then when it dries I have them use their pointer finger and make white dots on the peach for the mustache and pom pom dots on the red hat and along the bottom of the hat too.  Then we use glitter glue for eyes and nose (I do this after school and add a few glitter stars around the card) and we attach the “All We Want for Christmas” to the front.

Kids’ cards to parents….

Then I give kids different types of cute stationery to write on and we go through the whole writing process doing a brainstorm of ideas on the board,

“sloppy copy” on newsprint, and then I edit for spelling and we rewrite on the nice colored paper. Here’s what they look like all done.  Very fun writing activity with a little art sprinkled in!  Hope mom’s love this!

Christmas Cookie Decorating

12/17/2011 by Pattie 3 Comments

Last night we had a family dinner of lasagna and salad and hot, crescent rolls and candied carrots. It was a lot of fun. Then we had everybody bring their favorite sugar cookies and I had gingerbread men and all the candies and frosting. We had a cookie decorating party!

Christmas Sugar cookie decorating candies…I like putting in these plastic chip and dip holders from the dollar store.

The little girls had fun decorating cookies and I think even the guys got into it a little bit. We had fun watching Megan dump a whole shaker of sugar on one of her cookies and Bruce, our doggie walk around constantly catching bits of sugar crystals or tiny candies. I was stuffed by the end of the night having no self control when it comes to cookies.

My Nutcracker collection….
I got some cute Christmas shirts for my 3 little girls….
So they had to pose for pictures…that got boring real fast!
My son in his new helmet…he looks so special….
My grandbaby and her mom…. all smiles….
My daughter and her hubs
We ate a lasagna and salad and rolls  for dinner…then we decorated sugar cookies…before dessert…I think we did a fun dessert bar too! Boy we were loaded with sugar by end of the night! EEK!
There was a lot of candy to choose from….
They were all gettin’ into decorating our Christmas Cookies….
Are those “body parts” on your creation Devin? hmmmm……
Yum yum grandma!
Josie liked watching and picking up candies….
Meg liked shaking the sugars all over her Christmas cookies!
Doesn’t she look like she’s up to something?
The girls got into it first….
Everybody was decorating after awhile….
I loved this shot….Meg loves her uncle Dev….
Can we eat one of them yet, PLEASE?
These Sugar Cookies were loaded!
See the sugar man? Some were a lot worse…one got a whole bottle of sugar dumped on him! Eek!
Our Christmas Sugar Cookie creations!
It was a sweet time.

The Train, The Train!

12/15/2011 by Pattie 2 Comments

We went downtown  to see the 1940s steam engine that was coming into town. It was a slushy, rainy day so there was a ton of traffic and we missed it by 5 minutes!  So we had a little discussion. Should we drive all the way to Ogden to chase it down?

Well, we probably shouldn’t have, because it ended up taking up our whole day, but it is always fun to have an adventure. So we had a train adventure, the hubs and I.

Train station….I think this was the Frontrunner Train.or maybe Trax….

Have you ever heard of the “Intermodal Hub”?  Yeah me neither…what a weird word….

Here we are finding out the 1940s Steam Train left just 5 minutes ago…..and everybody leaving just raved about it too!

Well, should we or shouldn’t we? We can race the train! Let’s GO!
I liked these criss crossed signs…Trax, Amtrak, Greyhound and Frontrunner…. Cool!

We got back in the car and it was 10:15….oh well….we are slugs…we don’t move fast on Saturday mornings….

I can’t remember where we were here, but we took a picture anyway…snicker….

Some of the old trains at Union Station in Ogden
The Steam Train is coming to town…..Ya better watch out…ya better not cry…Oh that’s another song…OOPS!
Cool train cars….

Here’s an old Steam Engine just sitting around….

Union Station….Ogden….

Old train museum inside here….and some shops….

I just really liked the architecture of this old,  train-station building…

Some monuments to something….

For some reason this old grandpa wanted to get in on my picture taking. What’s up with that gramps?

This place looks fun! It would have been awesome for the grand kids to go exploring some of these old trains….

Here’s the hubs…..he’s thinking…”You dragged me away from Football….for THIS?”  No really, he enjoyed it….I think…
And me…waiting for the train to come, we beat it by 30 minutes…
The Union Pacific!  We’ve got lots of history here in Utah….
Wasted youth…hanging out on train tracks on a Saturday…..
Planes…trains and automobiles….
Here comes the train! The Train! de twain…
It seriously took forever…it was going backwards pushing trains in to be parked….

When it finally got here is was very awesome!

Lots of Ogdenites came out to see the train. I’d forgotten that Ogden is a big train city.

Here I am!  With my Ogden peeps….

My hubs with all the other tourists…..hehe….

The 844….that’s what we learned they call it…..it travels all over America.
I had to snap a pic of this HOT Train Engineer…he had the cute overalls and everything!

This is just the tip of the train. It was ….FRICKIN  H U G E!  Look at those wheels!
It was a fun day together….I like trains it turns out…

Turkey Dinner Birthday Party for Devin

11/22/2011 by Pattie Leave a Comment

Devi’s birthday was last week. I can’t believe all my kids are grown up. What happened to the time. It seems like just yesterday I was walking them all down the street to the park to play, or we were all running around one of the Los Angeles museums looking at cool stuff.

His little nieces…..They adore him!

So since some of my kids were going to the inlaws’ houses for Thanksgiving this year I decided to do mine early. We did a party  and had turkey and all the sides.

My favorite Thanksgiving dish…Fresh Cranberry Salad…yummy!

Some of my favorites are here. Fresh cranberry salad and cornbread stuffing. It’s the very best.  My recipes are HERE at Weekday Chef, my other blog. Can you believe I forgot to take a shot of the beautiful turkey? Yeah. I did. Figures.

Happy 26th to Devin Sean Moss!

My grand kids got into blowing out the candles. Aren’t they just sweet? It was a fun time. We played a fun board games. It was a present  called LOGO.

It’s where you try to remember all these products and their jingles and advertising from the past. It was pretty fun. I recommend it.

She loved my little pine cone turkeys. Link HERE for the tutorial.

Happy Thanksgiving Everybody!
